Abstract:	The case gives an account of a typical letter from an American manufacturer to the US government saying that foreign manufacturers were putting him out of business through cheap exports, and recommending imposition of duty equal to the wage differential in the exporting country. The case considers the various responses to this invitation to protectionism.
