Abstract: Banking in Pakistan emerged from small beginnings. Prior to independence in 1947, non-Muslims largely dominated banking in the region that became Pakistan. Banking was in the hands especially of Hindus, and when they migrated to India in 1947, Pakistan was left with few banking services and skills.
