April 1961 saw the first manned spacecraft launched from Baikonur in central Asia. It was followed by the first American launched from Cape Kennedy. He is also well known for his features in the press and for his appearances on television. John Wood is a recognized artist of the British Interplanetary Society and has already achieved distinction for his illustrations of aircraft, notably in the companion series The Pocket Encyclopaedia of World Aircraft.
