The aim in producing this book is to put into an easily accessible form and as much informative as possible concerning the history, customs etc., of the people of Punjab who have embraced Islam. This book gives the origin and history of almost all the important Punjabi Tribes.
It is a socio-anthropological study of Musalmans located between the Indus and Sutlej rivers in the undivided Punjab and North West Frontier Province. Also provides useful information about Rajput and Jat tribes in the 1911 Census.The work originally published in 1915 was intended primarily for the instruction of the young army officers to acquaint them with men with whom they were serving. Guidelines for recruitment officials are also given.
