"This book constructs a kind of European history which is not usually taught in academic instituions in the West or elsewhere. Chapter One focuses on concepts like modernity, globalisation and the recent Muslim responses. Chapter Two reconstructs Islam in the Balkans beginning with an account of Hungary, Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania. It is aimed at offering a historical background to Muslim marginalisation in these regions since the Ottoman decline. Chapter Three attempts a general history of the former Yugoslavia and its gradual dissolution after Tito's death. Chapter Four recounts the history of Bosnia-Herzegovnia while refuting the othering of Bosniaks. Chapter Five concentrates on the war in Bosnia and accompanying ethnic cleansing. It focuses on the siege and destruction of cities like Sarajevo and Mostar while narrating the tragedies of of Ahmici and Srebenica, which typified the anti-Muslim campaigns carried out both by the Serbs and Croats.
