Journalist Suhail Warraich's book, The Traitor Within: The Nawaz Sharif Story in His Own Words, has been released in English. The book, compiled over three years, combines a series of interviews with ousted Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif, who was living in exile in Jeddah and London at the time.
The only authorized account of Sharif's life, it traces his rise as a political protégé of Generals Zia-ul-Haq and Ghulam Jilani Khan, and then as the central force in Punjab's right-wing politics. It details his two tenures as Prime Minister, and his controversial tussles with Benazir Bhutto, Presidents Ghulam Ishaq Khan and Farooq Leghari, and the country's powerful military establishment.
Written in question-and-answer form, it also features interviews with loyalist General Ziauddin Butt, and Sharif's relations and political allies Shahbaz Sharif, Kulsoom Nawaz, Hussain Nawaz, Javed Malik and Captain Safdar.
