Hakim Momin Khan Momin is regarded as the quintessential poet of the classical ghazal. In polished diction, he depicts abject adoration of the beloved, which was almost conventional, but beyond that his lyrics are rapturous and engaging. Apart from romantic themes, Momin took an interest in the political upheavals of his time and made memorable comments in verse. His poetry has great variety in terms of theme and form. In this short but representative selection, a new generation of readers will be able to access his poetry, sometimes described as the lynchpin of the Urdu Ghazal.
