"Beyond the Gorges of the Indus" is the archaeological history of what is now known as the Trans-Himalayan Zone. Karl Jettmar has based his book on the expeditions which he undertook in areas including the Dard River, the Upper Gilgit Valley, Baltistan, the Tarim Basin, Tangir and Darel. This study examines the landmarks, the artefacts and the inscriptions of the locations in which excavations were carried out. The book gives an insight into the solutions confirmed by the discovery of the petroglyphs in the Indus Valley, near Chilas with 30,000 images, and more than 4,000 inscriptions.
